About the Artist
Chula Beauregard (b. 1974) is a sixth-generation Coloradan. After graduating from Whitman College as an Art Major, cum laude, Chula went on to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Gabon, Central Africa. Coming home to the Colorado mountains, she finds painting is her preferred way to engage in the Western landscape.
Beauregard is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), American Impressionist Society (AIS), and American Women Artists (AWA). She has won notable awards in each group and won the President’s Award of Excellence with the Oil Painters of America (2022). She won 1st Place awards at the Steamboat Art Museum Plein Air Event (2015, 2016, 2019), and served as Faculty at the Plein Air Convention and Expo (PACE, 2023). She has been invited to several museum shows, including the Brinton Museum (Big Horn, WY), the Western Spirit Museum (Scottsdale, AZ), the Steamboat Art Museum (Steamboat Springs, CO), Bennington Art Center (Bennington, VT), Booth Western Art Museum (Cartersville, GA), and the Tucson Desert Art Museum (Tucson, AZ).
Her work can be found in public and private collections. She is represented by the Simpson-Gallagher Gallery (Cody, WY) and the Broadmoor Galleries (Colorado Springs, CO).
Artist Statement:
“Each day I go into the field with my art box, charged with fresh oil paint, clean brushes and blank panels. I search for truth and beauty which creates the sense of place. Back in the studio, I play with color palettes, value zones, and compositional structure. These experiments are in service to the deep connection I gained in the field. Adhering to best practices ensures every piece has archival integrity.
As we witness it, we love it. What we love, we strive to preserve. My role is to witness this fragile world. It creates in me a responsibility to protect it. Through three different Artist-in-Residence projects, I partnered with The Nature Conservancy, a 100-year-old performing arts camp, and now the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agriculture Land Trust. Following the artistic heritage of the School of Fontainbleau and Thomas Moran, my art adds to the effort to educate, inspire, and eventually conserve our heritage and land.
Growing up in the mountains of Colorado, I continue a legacy, raising my own family here. Six generations of Colorado family behind me support this wild dream come true: to be an artist, spending my career communicating deep connections to this beautiful place we call home.”
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” John Muir
