Process
An artwork commission is when a client approaches an artist to make a custom artwork specially for them, rather than buying an artwork that the artist had already created. When you commission a piece of art, you collaborate with the artist to develop ideas for the artwork – you may have a vision in mind, a purpose for commissioning art, or an intended place for the art commission, and you communicate this to the artist. The artist then creates custom art based on your preferences.
- Discuss placement and take measurements
- Both client and artist will share photos and visual ideas
- Discuss initial needs and inspiration
- Look at samples of color scheme if needed
- Discuss timeline and deadlines
- Small pen or pencil sketches
- Same proportion as finished piece
- Can explore multiple ideas as discussed at consultation
- Artist will provide an estimated price based on size
- Upon client’s approval of preliminary sketches and samples, we will complete the contract (click here for sample).
- Review & sign contract
- Submit agreed-upon deposit
- Review & approve color studies
- This may include field studies and references to previous paintings
- May be a need for a small mock-up of the painting
- Following a final review, the work will begin with no further revisions
- Framing, delivery, and installation of the work are not included in the original estimate
- For an extra fee, framing the piece, assisting in packaging, delivery and professional installation is available
- We have photos and videos of this process
